A local charity discovered that the town’s wealthiest lawyer had never donated a single dollar.
So one of the volunteers gave him a call.
“According to our records,” she said politely, “despite earning well over $600,000 a year, you’ve never donated to any charitable causes. Wouldn’t you like to give something back to the community?”
The lawyer paused for a moment before replying,
“Did your research also show that my mother is terminally ill, and her medical bills are more than she earns in a year?”
The volunteer, caught off guard, quietly replied,
“Um… no.”
“Did it mention that my brother is a disabled war veteran who’s blind and confined to a wheelchair?”
The volunteer began apologizing, but the lawyer continued.
“Or that my sister’s husband was killed in a terrible car accident, leaving her broke with three children to raise alone?”
Now completely embarrassed, the volunteer said softly,
“I… I had no idea.”
The lawyer snapped back:
“Exactly. And I don’t give them a damn cent either — so why would I give any to you?” 😭
