A man walked into a church one afternoon and asked to make a confession.
"Of course, my son," the priest said, leading him into the confessional. "Tell me what's on your conscience."
"Well, Father," the man began, "on Monday I was at my girlfriend's house. We were alone... and I gave in to temptation."
The priest nodded calmly.
"My son, people make mistakes. Say two Hail Marys, and ask sincerely for forgiveness."
The man continued.
"On Tuesday I was back at her house. My girlfriend wasn't home, but her sister was... we were alone... and I sinned again."
The priest sighed.
"You must learn to resist temptation. Say eight Hail Marys."
"But that's not all, Father."
"On Wednesday, my girlfriend wasn't home either. Her mother was there... we were alone... and once again, I sinned."
The priest rubbed his forehead.
"My son..."
"Then on Thursday, the rest of the family had gone shopping. Only her aunt was home... we were alone..."
The priest said nothing.
"And on Friday, everyone had gone away for the weekend except her grandmother..."
Still no response.
"So on Saturday," the man continued, "I went over again. The only one home was her father, and we were alone..."
Silence.
The man waited a moment, then stepped out of the confessional.
The priest was gone.
Looking around, he finally spotted him standing high up in the church bell tower.
"Father!" the man shouted. "What are you doing up there? I haven't finished my confession!"
The priest leaned over the railing and yelled back:
"I'm staying right here!
The two of us would be alone... the church is empty... and I'm not taking any chances!"
