Thomas was 32 years old and still very much single. One afternoon, while grabbing coffee, a friend asked him, "Thomas, why aren't you married yet? Surely you can find a woman who would make a good wife?"

Thomas sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Actually, I’ve found many women I wanted to marry," he admitted. "I’ve dated kind doctors, brilliant artists, and even a chef. But every time I bring them home to meet my parents, my mother finds a flaw. One is too loud, another is too career-focused, and the last one apparently didn't even know the 'proper' way to fold a napkin".

His friend thought for a moment, then snapped his fingers. "I’ve got the perfect solution! Just find a girl who’s exactly like your mother".

Thomas took the advice to heart. He spent months searching through tea shops, knitting clubs, and classical garden shows. Finally, a few months later, the two friends met again. The friend noticed Thomas looked even more miserable than before.

"Well?" the friend asked. "Did you find the perfect girl? Did your mother finally like her?"

With a deep frown, Thomas answered, "Yes, I found her. She was a mirror image of my mother. She wears the same vintage floral dresses, drinks the same obscure Earl Grey tea, and even has that exact same habit of squinting when she’s judging someone. You were right—my mother liked her very much. They spent four hours together just talking about how I don't eat enough vegetables".

The friend beamed, "Then what's the problem? The hard part is over!"

Thomas looked him in the eye and replied, "The problem is, my father can't stand her! He pulled me aside and said he’s already spent thirty years surviving one version of my mother, and he’ll be damned if he lets me bring a second one into the house!"
