A woman was on her way to church when her car suddenly broke down. Running late, she ordered an Uber.

A few minutes later, the driver pulled up, and she climbed into the back seat.

The ride was quiet. Hoping to be friendly, she tried making small talk.

"So, have you been driving for Uber long?"

The driver didn't respond.

Assuming he hadn't heard her, she gently tapped him on the shoulder.

The effect was immediate.

The driver let out a terrified scream, yanked the steering wheel, and slammed on the brakes. The car skidded onto the shoulder before finally coming to a stop.

Both of them sat there in stunned silence, breathing hard.

"I'm so sorry!" the woman said. "I had no idea tapping your shoulder would scare you like that."

The driver took a deep breath and managed a nervous laugh.

"It's not your fault," he said. "Today's actually my first day driving for Uber."

He paused.

"For the last twenty-five years... I've been driving a hearse."
