Then a voice echoes through the room:
"Accept what is offered, or climb the ladder to success."
The man looks at the money and shrugs.
"Ten bucks? I can do better than that."
So he climbs.
On the next floor, he finds $1,000 in cash and a moderately attractive woman who is eager to become his wife.
Again, the voice speaks:
"Accept what is offered, or climb the ladder to success."
The man thinks for a moment.
"Not bad... but if this is only the second floor, imagine what's next."
He climbs again.
This time, he discovers $50,000 in cash, a beautiful woman, the deed to a cozy house, and a job offer paying more than twice his current salary.
Once again, the voice asks:
"Accept what is offered, or climb the ladder to success."
Now he's tempted. Very tempted.
But the pattern is obvious: every floor is better than the last.
So up he goes.
The next floor is beyond his wildest dreams.
A million dollars in cash.
Bank records showing a net worth of over $50 million.
The deed to a mansion.
The keys to his dream car.
And the two most gorgeous women he has ever laid eyes on.
He's about to run toward them when the voice returns:
"Accept what is offered, or climb the ladder to success."
The man freezes.
Everything he's ever wanted is right here.
Wealth. Luxury. Security. Happiness.
He could spend the rest of his life enjoying everything in this room.
But one thought keeps nagging at him:
If this floor is this good... what's waiting on the next one?
Unable to resist, he grabs the ladder and starts climbing.
This ladder is much longer than the others.
The higher he climbs, the worse the smell becomes.
At first it's unpleasant.
Then it's awful.
By the time he reaches the top, he's fighting the urge to gag.
He pulls himself onto the landing and looks around.
The room is nearly empty.
No money.
No mansion.
No beautiful women.
No ladder leading higher.
Just a massive figure sitting in a dark corner.
As the figure lights a cigarette, the brief glow reveals a man who must weigh at least 400 pounds. He smells like he hasn't bathed in months.
Exhausted from the climb, the man can only stare in horror as the giant slowly rises and walks toward him.
The stranger extends a hand and says:
"Hi. I'm Cess."
